Farmer is in his 20th year as an educator. He started his career in the Franklin Community School Corporation, where he taught elementary for seven years. He then moved to Maple Grove Elementary, where he taught 5th Grade for nine years before serving as a Sixth Grade Science Specialist with MSD of Wayne Township. He then served as assistant principal at North Madison Elementary in Mooresville Schools before becoming assistant principal of Maple Grove Elementary in 2025.

Farmer holds a bachelor's degree in Elementary Education from Indiana University and a master's degree in Education from Indiana Wesleyan University. He, his wife, and their children are long-time residents of Center Grove. A search for a new assistant principal for Maple Grove is underway.
