PE Grade Explanation

PHYSICAL EDUCATION GRADES

I have had questions regarding the grades that students receive in Physical Education.  I hope this will help answer them.  Your students grades will come from many areas: following PE rules/expectations, sports test, fitness test, skills test, PARTICIPATION, sports word searches, sports writing assignments, homework assignments: shoes (all grades) folders (3rd-5th grades) sports fitness logs (3rd-5th only), monthly fun runs, and possibly more.

Students in Physical Education receive the grades of S+, S, S- and U.  Please do not equate these grades to the classroom grades of A-F.  They are not the same.  This explanation should help.

S+      Outstanding – this means your child did very, very well on this particular skill, assessment, homework, or test.

S        Satisfactory – your child is doing what is average/normal and expected for his/her age in comparison to all other students in their grade.  

S-      Working Below Potential – this grade merely points out a certain skill, homework assignment, participation, or assessment that needs more improvement/effort/work.

U        Unsatisfactory – students are not handing in assignments or are not scoring well on written or skills tests.  A lot more effort or practice is needed.

DAILY PE GRADES----Every PE day your child will have a DAILY PE GRADE worth 100 points...if they have their tennis shoes and follow my rules/expectations they will get all 100 points, if not, then they will receive a different grade. Third, fourth, and fifth graders will also have a weekly fitness log assignment that needs to be completed in their PE binder before they come to my class...if they have it filled out correctly then they will receive a S+(100%), if not, then a U(50%)will be given. Basically this homework assignment is to get out and move/exercise for at least 30 minutes twice a week.

****When I enter an assignment in Skyward, it is entered for the entire grade level.  Some students will participate in that activity before others do (Day 1, Day 2, Day 3, Day 4, Day 5).  Please do not assume that your child has missed an opportunity for a grade.  Wait a few more days.  In most cases, you will find that the grade has been entered.
